What is Dressage?

The word “dressage” comes from a French word for “training” and it refers to the development of a horse and rider as a team, resulting in balance and harmony. Dressage improves flexibility, strength and accuracy, for both the horse and rider. It also helps the horse and rider communicate more effectively.

A dressage test is performed to demonstrate training accomplishments. Basic dressage tests include straight lines, halts, circles (of various sizes), and changes of gait. Advanced dressage tests include lateral movements, collection, extension and all sorts of fancy stuff! Dressage training is useful for riders of all disciplines and dressage shows are fun - with riders receiving feedback from the judge on each movement.

What will we do?

In this class we’ll start out with the basics - we’ll all learn the movements necessary to perform a novice (beginner) level dressage test. During our last week, we will all perform the test for a judge! All riders will leave with a test score sheet and feedback on their ride.

Who Can attend?

All TRI riders are invited to attend. It doesn’t matter if you use a leader and/or sidewalkers. Dressage really is for EVERYONE!
